Savouring victory

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart was on hand this evening to share in Barbadian jockey Rico Walcott’s first Sandy Lane Gold Cup win.

Walcott claimed the coveted race aboard Sayler’s Creek in the 34th running of the prestigious horse race at the historic Garrison Savannah.

Second place went to Daunting David and Knight Rider was third.

The winning horse was one of  two overseas entrants – the other Gentleman’s Kitten, which had star jockey Patrick Husbands aboard. Both are owned by Kenneth and Sarah Ramsey, also the owners of last year’s winner Major Marvel.

A large crowd of Barbadians and visitors witnessed this afternoon’s colourful spectacle.
