At least one candidate in the 2013 general election has returned to fulfill a promise made to a constituent.
He is independent candidate John Warde, who contested the St. Michael West Central seat in the February 21 general election.
In an interview with Barbados TODAY, Warde recalled that during the campaign he had promised constituent Livinstone Cumberbatch of Denniston Road to have a ramp built at his home.
Warde explained that during the campaign he had noticed that the steps were destroying the wheels of his wheel-chair and therefore a ramp needed to be constructed to address this problem.
He said he teamed up with his step-father Lorenzo Riley who owns Riley’s Equipment and Construction Inc., and built the ramp for Cumberbatch. Warde however recalled that while they were building the ramp, they noticed that the house needed painting.
The independent candidate contracted Fabian Elcock, who manages a small company called Afad Enterprise, to paint the exterior of the house, a job with which he assuisted.
Warde explained that the repairs he carried out on Cumberbatch’s home were part of community work of a charitable organisation he heads. The organisation is called “Chance at a Dream” and is primarily geared towards introducing early childhood intervention as a long-term part for crime reduction.
The community worker explained that his charitable organisation also offered assistance to the elderly in the community.
