The late trade unionist Byron Jackman has been hailed as a stalwart of the trade union movement in Barbados.

In a statement today, the umbrella Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) said it had received news of the untimely passing last week of Comrade Byron, who at the time of his death, was serving in the office of Senior Vice President of the Barbados Workers’ Union.

“Comrade Jackman, who was a stalwart of the Barbados Workers’ Union, will always be remembered for his loyalty, dedication and commitment to that organization.

“His passing has left a distinct void in the labour movement. His vibrancy, energy and passion, which formed part of his endearing personality, have all contributed to the strong advocacy and representation he championed on the behalf of the members of the Barbados Workers’ Union,” the statement said.

“CTUSAB joins the family of the Barbados Workers’ Union in mourning the loss of Comrade Jackman; and in doing so, pays tribute to his life of service dedicated to the work of both the labour and credit union movements of Barbados,” it added.
