Police and Coast Guard removing the body from rocks today.
Police in Barbados have identified the man whose body was pulled from the sea at Welches, Christ Church this morning. Up to news time, however, they decline to make the information public.
This morning, divers from the Barbados Coast Guard and police, pulled the body of the man from rocks which formed a groyne off Welches beach near Oistins, Christ Church.
Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector David Welch, told reporters at the scene that two men discovered the body stuck between the rocks, after which officers were informed.
“With the assistance of the Coast Guard, we recovered a man, dark complexion, clad only in black boxer shorts; so we are here right now trying to investigate the circumstances as to how he came to be in that position,” Welch said.

While a group of officers huddled together on one side of the beach discussing the case, three others, including an incident scenes photographer, were observed a stone’s throw away sorting out the contents of a red back pack, which they believed may have been left there by the dead man.
The small back pack contained a bluish shirt, dark three-quarter pants and a pair of soft shoes, neatly put away inside. The police photographer took pictures of the personal possessions and pack, before taking them away for further investigations. The personal effects were discovered on the beach, about 170 feet from where the body was found.
The Coast Guard divers and police used rope to secure the body before pulling it from the rocks and moving it to shore. One of the men who discovered the dead man, told Barbados TODAY it was around 8.30 a.m. that he saw “something unusual”.
“I see a hand come up in de air, so I say, wuh dat is something more; den I look ’round and see it is a body,” the witness declared.
He said he did not recognise the person, neither could he tell whether it was male or female. He did point out
though that he was on one of his usual morning trips to the sea to fish for pleasure and relaxation.
Welch said the body was in a state of “slight” decomposition. At the time, he could not say the approximate age of the deceased, but urged members of the public to contact the Oistins Police Station or any other station, if they had information concerning the man’s death. (EJ)
