The strike by Barbados Water Authority (BWA) workers is continuing today and sources tell Barbados TODAY the industrial action could escalate soon.

An extraordinary meeting of the Executive Council of the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is being planned as the employees continue the action they began last Thursday.

They’ve accused the BWA management of treating them with gross disrespect and of failing to address a litany of grievances, including outstanding pay.

Up to last Friday, BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman was adamant that the workers should stand their ground and remain off the job. He complained that the Authority had been paying lip service to the workers’ concerns for far too long, and warned that the union would call out all 25,000 of its members if necessary.
