COURT TODAY BLOCKTwo teenagers who confessed to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court in August that they were involved in a gas-pump scam, were each ordered to repay the exact amount which they stole and to perform 240 hours of community service.

Jamal Kemar Greene, 19, of Redmans Village, St Thomas and Khalile Quarless, 18, of Wavell Avenue, Black Rock, St Michael both pleaded guilty to their respective offences; that between July 1 and August 13 this year, Greene stole $545 and Quarless $2, 300 from Vega Energy Incorporated.

Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman told the court last time that both young men were employed at the SOL Black Rock branch.

When some customers paid for their gas with either their SOL or Cave Shepherd card, the men would swipe the card the first time for the amount required by the customer, and “then a second time for an amount varying between $20 and $50.”

They kept the receipt and when a cash customer came, they kept that cash and allowed the second swipe to cover the cash order. After a complaint was made, footage was reviewed and the pair was caught on camera.

Both are first-time offenders.

Quarless was given until next February 12 to repay the money he took or spend three months in prison, while Green was told to pay his forthwith. It was paid and he avoided the seven days in jail alternative.
