Nearly five months after six-year-old Jahan King died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in mysterious circumstances, police investigators are hoping to bring closure to his case by month-end.

“We are still investigating that [death] and we are hoping by this month to conclude [our investigations],” the Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for Crime Management and Investigations, Livingstone Eversley, told Barbados TODAY this afternoon.

Jahan passed away in the early hours of Monday, June 29 at the QEH after being taken there by ambulance. Police later questioned and released his mother Lasonta Gill and her boyfriend Dwayne Marshall in connection with his death.

However, Jahan’s grandmother Margaret Gill has laid blame at the feet of the Child Care Board (CCB), saying she had made several reports to the organisation about the treatment of the child.  She listed broken fingers, an injury to the eye, a burst mouth and bruises about the body.

Following a public outcry, with some people accusing the CCB of not doing its job, chairman Ken Knight issued a statement saying a full review was being conducted into its handling of the case.

Knight while expressing condolences to the family, acknowledged the CCB had received reports of injuries to the child and officers had been investigating.
