Eighteen-year-old Nickolai Matthew Thompson appeared in a Bridgetown court yesterday on three charges, one of which is likely to be upgraded to murder.
Thompson, who lives at Chadderton Road, Carrington Village, St Michael and Nishawn Andre Prescod, also 18, are both charged with causing serious bodily harm to Brinsley Warde on October 9, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him.
Prescod resides at Hinds Gap, Halls Road, St Michael.
Thompson faces two other charges on his own, of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Shemar Boyce on the same date and assaulting Avery Copland on July 27 this year, occasioning him actual bodily harm.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant read the charges to the accused in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Thompson was only allowed to plead to the charge relating to Copland, which he denied. The other two matters are indictable.
Station Sergeant Irvin Kellman objected to bail for the two accused teenagers, stating that there seemed to be a progression of offences by Thompson.
While the complainant in the wounding matter “though not well” was alive, Kellman said, the complainant in the serious bodily harm matter was now deceased.
The prosecutor explained there was the likelihood of the latter matter being upgraded to murder “in the very near future” and that being the case, it would be risky to grant the accused bail.
Kellman further informed the court that Warde died soon after receiving the injuries.
The prosecutor argued that neither of the two were “fit and proper candidates for bail” which ought to be denied.
The magistrate remanded the pair until November 13.
Thompson is being represented by attorneys-at-law Douglas and Kathy-Anne Trotman.
