One of Barbados’ leading men’s advocates is planning to go to the courts to test what he says is unfair practices that end up hurting men.

President of the Men’s Education Support Association (MESA), Ralph Boyce says there are declining or non-existent men’s rights in domestic affairs and potential cases of human rights violations by the State against men in prison.

He says it’s time for his organization to move from just lobbying to taking legal action to have these issues dealt with.

“Increasingly men come to me and ask what can we do, what can we do to help us, and I say we lobbying out there. But that is not enough,” he said, “another level MESA has to move to is to find itself in a position to offer legal assistance”.

Boyce identified the Maintenance Act as among legislation that disadvantages men.

He said men are treated harshly when they go to court to deal with paying child support while women who refuse to let men see the same children they’re providing money for, are not penalized.
