The return of Anthony “Blackdog” Richards to competition has made this year’s Silver Hill Road Tennis Championships one of the most anticipated.
Richards, who thrilled fans with classic battles against Julian “Michael Jackson” White, will be returning to action for the first time since 2007.
And while he is unranked, patrons will be eagerly looking forward to a potential showdown with the defending champion White, Mark “Venom” Griffith or Antoine “Lil Man” Daniel in the later rounds.
The competition, which serves off at 7 p.m. tonight on the Silver Hill hardcourt, will also feature a ladies division for the first time.
In tonight’s opening round of matches in the ‘A’ class division, Corey Mayers will take on Caeddi Forde, Anthony Haynes will come up against Aaron Douglas and Simeon Harewood will play Kirkman Harewood.
Roy Revellar is also slated to play Wayne Clarke, Jamel “Bob” Best will take on Warrington Ward, while Anderson “Chef Andy” Smith will clash with Matthew Grazettes.
In the ‘B’ class division, 13-year-old fan favourite Nicholas Ellis will play Desmond “Hatcher” Wooding and Roger Daniel will battle Ezekial Ward.
Among the ladies, Carolyn Haynes will play Patsie Rouse and Sonja Cox will take on Kathyann McCollin.
