Kitchen staff at the QEH will not be going back to work unless the extractor fans are repaired

Yet another set of workers have taken protest action.

Kitchen staff at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital walked off the job this morning, frustrated with what they consider poor working conditions.

The workers complained that extractors fans which have not been working for months are still out of order, causing at least three workers to faint this week because of the intense heat.

Officials from the National Union of Public Workers,
including acting general Secretary Roslyn Smith met with the workers.

Smith said the workers will not be returning to the kitchen until the fans are fixed.

The hospital is presently using the services of relief workers to prepare meals.

Last month, the kitchen workers were relocated to the school meals department to allow renovations to be carried out at the facility.

Earlier this week, staff at both the Schools Meals Department and the Central Bank of Barbados also staged protests.
