At the beginning of this year, a former drug user made a New Year’s resolution to stop smoking and has kept that vow to date.
Appearing in the Drug Treatment Court this evening, attorney-at-law Leslie Cargill complimented her client on his performance.
“He was the first person in the programme to have a negative report,” she reminded the gathering in the No. 2 Supreme Court, but had subsequently vowed that he would remain clean.
She added that even though he had had some personal challenges and had faced the threat of being sent to the Psychiatric Hospital to be detoxed if his drug use continued, he had risen above that.
He also changed counsellors along the way after having challenges with the first one, the court heard.
His last two random blood tests returned negative.
Asked by Magistrate Graveney Bannister what his motivation for the change was, the man answered “The Creator.”
“You have come a long way and I commend you highly,” Bannister said, before the man was handed two Lucky Horseshoe vouchers.
