COURT TODAY BLOCKMan pleads guilty to attacking friend

After getting into a fight with his good friend, Damien Ruehl Browne pleaded guilty today to assault.

The Codrington Hill, St. Michael resident went before Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court where he admitted to unlawfully assaulting Jamaal Clarke on August 1.

Browne was released on $2 000 bail until September 25 when the complainant is expected to attend court and the issue of compensation will be considered.

According to Station Sergeant Peter Barrow, Browne and Clarke were good friends. Clarke is also godfather to Browne’s son and was also good friends with the mother of the child.

On the date in question, Clarke, the child’s mother and her sister all went to Foreday Morning. While walking along Brighton Road, they saw Browne on the opposite side of the road. He crossed to where they were and threw something from his hand on to Clarke’s chest.

Browne then ran up to Clarke and cuffed him in the face. They scuffled and the complainant fell back, struck his head on the pavement and lost consciousness. When he regained consciousness, he realized that he had also chipped a tooth. Clarke later attended Sandy Crest Medical Centre where he was treated and discharged.

Browne apologized to the court for his actions today.
