The Freundel Stuart Administration was again today told to cancel its proposed imposition of tuition fees for Barbadian students at the University of the West Indies or prepare for a long battle.

Addressing protesting students in Jubilee Gardens, the City before taking to the streets, President of the Students Guild, Damanni Parris, made it clear that this demonstration was the first in a series to engage a wider Barbadian public in supporting their battle to pressure the Government to reverse its proposal.

“We will not retreat or surrender. This is our fight,” a passionate Parris declared.

He said the students at the Cave Hill campus felt oppressed by this Government, adding that they had a responsibility to march and represent “these young people”.

The Guild leader noted that students were now seeking welfare for the first time under the current Administration.
