Members of the public are invited to come out and join the clean-up efforts at the Morgan Lewis Beach in St. Andrew on Saturday, September 21 in celebration of International Coastal Clean-up Day.
The Environmental Protection Department of the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage, in collaboration with the Caribbean Youth Environmental Network, will be conducting beach clean-ups along Barbados’ coastline. During the day, data will be collected for use in the EPD’s National Marine Litter Monitoring Programme.
Interested persons are asked to register with the EPD by September 18. Transportation and refreshments will be provided for those who register on or before this deadline.
All registered participants who need transportation are asked to assemble at the EPD’s office in the L.V. Harcourt Lewis Building, Dalkeith, St. Michael by 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, for a 5:30 a.m. departure to the beach. Those taking part in the clean-up, who do not require transportation, are asked to assemble at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew by 6 a.m.
Members of the public are also invited to join the CYEN clean-up at Long Beach, Christ Church, on Saturday, September 21, beginning at 6 a.m.
Meanwhile, members of social and community groups interested in hosting their own clean-up events are asked to contact the National Conservation Commission and the EPD before doing so.
