The Roving Response team gets a utility truck to add to the fleet.
The keys to the truck, which was donated by the Department of Emergency Management, were handed over to the team’s President, Clive Lorde this morning at the DEM head quarters in Warrens, St. Michael.
Lorde, accepting the keys, thanked the DEM and their partners for the contribution. He said the Roving Response team looked forward to building a professional organisation more training and further acquiring equipment which would not only aid in assisting Barbados but as well their Caribbean neighbours.
He added that some members of the team were familiar with similar vehicles and he was competent that they properly care for it and keep it on the road as long as possible.
The vehicle donated today is 26 years old.
DEM Director, Judy Thomas, said that though it had experienced its own share of trauma, over the years the vehicle had served the department well. She explained that instead of dumping the vehicle they decided it would serve a better purpose if added to the Roving Response team’s emergency capabilities.
The truck cost an estimated $186,000 to initially get on the road. It had heavy duty capabilities and could be used in very deep water, at fires or for hauling other heavy trucks. (KC)
