After escaping from a Bridgetown Court yesterday afternoon, Chad Rommell Martin Williams was back in lawful custody today following 24-hours of freedom.
Williams appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Douglas Frederick and was not required to plead to the indictable offence of escaping lawful custody without the use of force on June 18, while being a prisoner and having been remanded to HMP Dodds.
Yesterday, the Beckles Road, St Michael resident walked out of the No. 2 Courtroom after appearing in the dock and denying three June 15 charges of obstructing, resisting and using abusive language towards Constable Philmore Hall.
Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant denied the 24-year-old accused man bail. Some time after being seated in the courtroom with other accused persons, Williams got up from his seat and went quietly toward the door. He was not handcuffed at the time.
A constable who was performing clerical duties in the courtroom apparently saw Williams just as he was about to exit and he quickly followed him. However, since he had several yards on the officer, Williams made good his escape.
It is understood that Williams turned himself in to police today, accompanied by attorney-at-law Romain Marshall.
