Former Chief Justice Sir David Simmons and leading businessman Ralph “Bizzy” Williams are among outstanding Caribbean nationals who will be awarded honorary degrees by the University of the West Indies (UWI) at its annual graduation ceremonies.

In a release issued today, the UWI said 21 public figures would be acknowledged for their outstanding achievements and service to the region in their respective fields.
UWI Chancellor Sir George Alleyne will confer the awards on four of the 21 at the Cave Hill Campus, seven at the Mona Campus, two at the Open Campus, and eight at St Augustine.
Sir David and Williams will receive their degrees at the Cave Hill campus ceremony, scheduled for October 17, along with Executive Director of Caribbean Export Pamela Coke-Hamilton and Business executive Stephen McNamara.
The other awardees include the widow of the late Bob Marley, Alfarita “Rita” Marley, Trinidadian calypsonian David Rudder, former Montserrat Chief Minister David Brandt and former Jamaican government minister Burchell Whiteman.
