Police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old public service vehicle (PSV) driver whose vehicle ran off the ABC Highway on Tuesday afternoon.
Shawn Richard Forde of Montrose Gardens was declared dead on the scene by a medical doctor.
Around 1:55 p.m., police received a call that a vehicle had run off the road and struck a rock along Charnocks, Christ Church.
The ZM van driven by Forde, who was found unresponsive, had significant damage to the front and left side.
A team of 11 fire officers responded to the incident and removed Forde’s body from the vehicle.
Police said the incident was not being classified as a road fatality at this stage and they have not ruled out it being a sudden death. They are awaiting the results of a postmortem.
Meanwhile, Communications and Public Affairs Officer of the Barbados Police Service Inspector Rodney Inniss urged members of the public to desist from taking pictures at accident scenes and posting them on social media.
“That is heartless, that doesn’t do any good for them or for the family,” the police spokesman said.
“Those persons should get in contact with the police if they want to say what they saw rather than insulting the family by posting such hurtful photos on social media. We have complained about this time and time again and we are hoping that persons will desist from it.” (BT)
