Several accused persons asked for their matters to be dismissed when they went before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Among them was Jamar Anthony JnMarie, of Break Neck Hill, My Lords Hill, St Michael, accused of robbing Jerome King of a $4 500 chain on August 31, 2013.
When the case was called and the prosecutor asked for an adjournment, JnMarie queried it. When he heard that the file relating to the case was not available, the accused man asked that the matter be dismissed.
He also complained about how the case was affecting his work and his attendance at a course he should have been on today.
Stating that he has been attending court for almost two years, JnMarie stressed that “every time I come, I hearing the same thing. No file . . . It is always because of the file and no other reason.”
“The prosecutor seems to be dragging his feet on the file,” JnMarie argued. “How long can a file take to be produced?”
Magistrate Douglas Frederick urged the prosecutor to work on getting the file there for the next occasion, before adjourning the matter until August 31.
