Potential customers are being assured that their information will be highly protected as a leading insurance company launched a platform that will allow them to purchase life insurance completely online.

Insurance agents, meantime, have also been promised they will not be cut out of the process as a result of Sagicor’s eLife, which will allow customers to browse insurance options online and select one suitable to their needs.

Explaining the platform at the official launch on Wednesday, Chief Executive Officer for Sagicor Life (Eastern Caribbean) Inc. Donald Austin said eLife offers customers the ability to purchase financial solutions from anywhere they have an Internet connection.

“eLife is the latest in a slew of innovations being developed and rolled out by our hardworking and dedicated group of client-focused team members. For quite some time, but especially over the last two to three years, Sagicor has been on a digitalisation journey in response to and in anticipation of the rapidly evolving demands of our clients, partners and the trends being seen within the market,” he said.

“The Sagicor Go mobile app, introduction of WhatsApp for business, the launch of an online portal for easy submission of claims, along with eConnect, our online virtual client experience system, are just some of the initiatives that we have brought to the market recently.”

Austin stressed that licensed insurance agents would not be negatively affected by the introduction of eLife which has been designed in such a way that they are still involved in the process.

The CEO said agents can send customers to access the services on the new platform.

“The agents continue to grow, to be honest with you, as part of our channels available to our customers. So this is just really one but a series of other channels that customers will have the opportunity to interact with agents. If there is no agent, we still have to have someone available, so the person will go to one of our digital associates [licensed agents] who will then basically effect the change and put it in place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sagicor’s Group Chief Information Officer Ronald Blitstein assured that customer information would also be protected on the eLife platform.

“What we did is to design security first into everything this platform does. So the application was designed with security in mind, it was designed with the assistance of third party and internal testers, it was designed to ensure that it didn’t have any of the flaws that would expose it to risks from malicious third parties,” he said.

“We spent considerable effort to provide a platform, to provide an environment for that platform, to provide an application all designed around providing an incredible and secure experience for consumers,” Blitstein added.

Customers visiting the eLife website can choose the financial solution they are interested in, answer a few short questions and in less than 54 seconds, receive a quote, with the final application taking approximately ten minutes.

Austin said one of the product offerings available with the launch of the eLife platform is Sagicor’s eZChoice, a new flexible term plan with no medical requirement that offers two coverage options of either 10 or 20 years before maturity, and provides a lump sum payment in the event of the death of an insured person during the term of the plan.
