A woman was remanded to Dodds until August 23 following claims that the disrespect meted out by a former partner led her to damage several of his belongings.

Akilah Itasha Lavia, of Hopewell, St Thomas pleaded guilty before the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to damaging a television, a fan and a speaker belonging to Dwayne Fields on August 5.

She however denied entering the man’s house as a trespasser and stealing $3 700 belonging to him.

In disclosing the facts, Station Sergeant Crishna Graham revealed that the two were in a relationship and the convicted woman damaged the property using a knife which she handed over to police.

“We got into an argument and I got angry,” the mother of three told Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes this afternoon.

Lavia claimed that she committed the act because “the way he spoke to me was disrespectful and I didn’t like it”.

She further alleged that the complainant was “constantly posting pictures of other women”.

“I told him it is disrespectful,” she told the court.

The first time offender said that behaviour had been going on for the eight months that they had been in the relationship.

Following the prosecutor’s objection to bail on the burglary charge, Lavia in her application told the court that she had “no intention of going back ever again”.

She added: “The act was done out of anger”.
