Top Barbadian recording gospel artiste Neesha Woodz has added two more prestigious music awards to her ever-growing list of accomplishments.  The latest came at the Silver Jubilee Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards recently held in the Bahamas, where Woodz, real name Neesha Wooding, won for Outstanding Calypso Soca Vocal Performance Duo/Group for her single Volume which featured singer and producer Nathaniel out of Trinidad and Tobago.

Neesha, who is the principal Worship Team Leader at the Cave Hill Wesleyan Holiness Church, also received the award for Outstanding Praise and Worship Recording (Female) for her single God of Miracles. This would be her third Marlin award. The first was in 2017 when the event was last staged. This dynamic Christian music minister has been showered with so many awards over her the years, that “I have kinda lost count of them.”

However, she managed to recall just a few of the more than 30 awards so far accumulated.

“I do not know how many awards I have, but I believe there are 30 plus,” the Bajan singer, songwriter, keyboardist and drummer declared with a chuckle, adding that some of those accolades would have been from the same Marlin Awards, the Barbados Music Awards, Antigua and Barbuda Gospel Music Awards, Praize Factor, People’s Choice Awards in Atlanta, and Texas Gospel Music Excellence Awards.

Woodz, who makes her living from singing, shared her two most sought-after goals with Barbados TODAY.                      “On a smaller scale, I want to produce a full-out worship album. People have been asking me to do that. Even though people like to hear the Caribbean genre which I am more known for, people also like to hear the worship side of me.

Also, I would like to get into producing. I would like to get into producing my own music and eventually have a label where I can help other young people who are interested in music,” said the locally-based international Christian artiste who is known for such hits as Fyah, Fyah; So Amazing; Volume; Adrenaline; Incredible God; Defenda and Running Ova. She believes it is important to be able to help artistes who are “green” to have a platform on which they can build and develop a better understanding of the music industry.

Woodz thinks she is in a position now to provide that foundation and share that knowledge having learned from her struggles through the years, especially regarding the high cost of producing music. She said while accolades encourage her, God is the main motivator who keeps her going in the
music ministry.

“Who motivates me? God for sure. God is the one who created this ministry out of me and He is the one that keeps motivating me. When you get accolades and things like that, they are in some way a push and an encouragement to keep going, but I don’t make music for accolades or fame or anything like that. I do it because I know from the past that my music has really touched lives, brought people closer to God, and besides doing it for God, I think being able to encourage people and inspire people and help uplift people through this voice and ministry God has given
me, that is what keeps me going,” the multi-faceted musician proclaimed.

Woodz considers herself blessed at being able to spread her music ministry across the region and the world and is willing to allow God to take it as far as He wants all for His honour and glory. She also acknowledged the invaluable assistance from her financial backer Signia Financial, who has been in her corner from 2015 when she presented her debut album to them.

Woodz was among the top names in Caribbean gospel at the Marlin Awards including Joel Positive Murray who again emerged as the top winner with five awards, including the two most prestigious – Outstanding Album for Heart
Wired
and Outstanding Song for Stay Up. (EJ)
