Tuesday, more than 300 parents, children and French enthusiasts came out to the Globe Drive-In for screenings of the French-Canadian animated films, Race Time and La Course des Tuques.

The free public event was hosted by the High Commission of Canada and Alliance Française (AF) de Bridgetown in celebration of la Journée internationale de la Francophonie.

Every year, on March 20, Francophones and Francophiles around the world celebrate la Journée internationale de la Francophonie.

The fifth most spoken language in the world, FrencOKh is the official language of 32 states and governments and is one of Canada’s two official languages along with English.

French is an essential component of Canadian history and heritage, and a valuable asset for the country’s future.

For more than 30 years, the Alliance Française de Bridgetown has been a leading organisation promoting French language learning in Barbados.

Yesterday’s family movie night highlighted Canada’s linguistic duality with back-to-back screenings of the same animated film in English (with French subtitles) and French (with English subtitles).

Additionally, two lucky attendees won beginner’s French lessons provided by AF de Bridgetown in an effort to improve French language conversational skills.

The High Commission of Canada and Alliance Française de Bridgetown were delighted to partner on this public event celebrating the French language and Francophone culture. (PR)
