
There is a new rum product on Barbadian shelves with the launch of Plantation Cut & Dry, a coconut sensation locally made by expert rum makers and local farmers.
The 100 per cent natural coconut rum was created at the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) in partnership with a local farmer, A.T. Nicholls.
“After years of experimentation, the team at the WIRD are proud to offer a coconut-infused rum made by the best artisan talents from Barbados. Besides using local molasses,
Bajan coconuts are sourced from Nicholls’ farm, which is located a few miles from the distillery, to deliver the perfect ratio of two icons of Caribbean culture – one coconut per litre of rum,” Andrew Hassell, Managing Director of WIRD, said.
Hassell added that Plantation Cut & Dry highlights the unique flavour of Bajan rum and its connection with the island, by promoting the rich heritage of farming communities producing crops such as coconut.
“The distillery has been the backbone of the local rum industry and as we continue to invest in our communities and businesses, we are proud to be able to source local molasses and coconuts from Barbados to create unique craft products,” he said.
The partnership is funded by the European Union (EU) and CARIFORUM and supports local communities to become more sustainable and profitable. (PR)
