Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale warned two women who turned up to sign bail for a 30-year-old man that he would have no mercy on them if the alleged thief failed to attend court.
Kyle Ramon McNeil Hinds had been remanded to prison the last time he appeared before Acting Magistrate Alliston Seale charged with breaking into a house and two business places, as well as stealing two weed wackers, a power washer and three batteries between October 2013 and April 2014.
Today, Seale granted the #7 Pleasant Hall, St Michael resident $30,000 bail with two sureties, saying he believed that bail should be commensurate with the value of the stolen items.
A friend and a relative of Hinds appeared in court to sign as his sureties.
The magistrate informed them of Hinds’ alleged offences and the bail amount and asked them if they still wanted to sign. Both replied in the affirmative.
One said she owned a house.
“Are you willing to put it up for him?” the magistrate asked.
“Yes Sir,” she replied.
The other surety who owned a house and shop replied similarly.
“God is in control,” added the woman who attended church with Hinds.
“I know that,” Seale responded, “but he also says to be as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove.”
The magistrate issued a final caution to the women before accepting them as Hinds’ sureties.
“I am unsympathetic when it comes to bail,” he warned. “So if he flies the coop, I want the Government’s money. Don’t cry . . . don’t beg, because I will not hear you. That is why we make you take the oath.”
The painter’s case was adjourned until May 22.
Hinds’ bail conditions include a 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew and he will have to report to the District “A” Police Station three times a week.
