COURT TODAY BLOCKEight girls from two rural secondary schools appeared in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court this morning following an altercation on Thursday.

Acting Magistrate Wanda Blair spoke sternly to the group of students, including four who had already been charged in a separate case of assault.

“School, as far as I know, is a place where you go to learn and not to fight and not to have a war going on,” Blair said.

“If you appear before this court again charged with any offence, I have no difficulty in sending you away from home. I am going to send you someplace where you are forced to take stock of yourself . . . I don’t know what is the matter with you school children,” the magistrate added.

“If you have a difficulty at school, you complain to your teacher and ask them to deal with the issue. If there are serious circumstances, you complain to the police.”

Acting magistrate Blair warned them that if they did not want to be separated from their education, they needed to “go to school and study”.
