The Democratic Labour Party (DLP) offers its sincere condolences to the family of the late supercentenarian Melville Williams who passed away yesterday at the age of 111.
The resident of Lonesome Hill, St Peter was born in 1910 and was a renowned saddle maker.
This hardworking son of the soil is someone whom many residents in St Peter knew and loved.
He was one of few saddlers in Barbados, producing exquisite work up until he was 100 years old.
For the latter part of his life, this unique Barbadian resided in Lonesome Hill, St Peter where he continued to be the epitome of what hard work and dedication to one’s craft can achieve.
Williams was described by a family member as an extremely jovial person who enjoyed Stone’s Ginger Wine.
The DLP shall indeed miss him as members would have visited him on a myriad of occasions over the years. We extend our deepest condolences to his immediate family, friends and the community of St. Peter who have now lost one of their Barbadian stalwarts.
May his soul Rest In Peace.
Verla De Peiza
President of the Democratic Labour Party
