Over $10,000 missing

Authorities are investigating the circumstances under which US$5,500 has gone missing from District “D” Police Station.

Barbados TODAY understands that sum was part of approximately $100,000 which was being kept at the station as an exhibit in a money laundering case.

The probe has already led to the sudden resignation of a station sergeant who at one time was in charge of the rural station and responsible for the proper maintenance of all exhibits.

But even as those close to the investigation query why such a large sum was kept at the station and not sent to the Police Force’s principal exhibit keeper at Central Police Station, Barbados TODAY has been reliably informed that there was the possibility that investigators could recommend criminal charges if such supportive evidence was forthcoming.

When contacted police public relations officer acting assistant superintendent David Welch said he had no information on the matter at this stage.
