She never received toys for Christmas because money was scarce for her family, now she is making it her mission to reduce the number of Barbadian children suffering the same fate.
And yesterday, founder of Robinson Smiles and Hope Inc, Julia Robinson continued her work when her charity hosted more than 200 less fortunate children from across Barbados at Harrison College.
“The party was awesome. I saw lots of smiles, kids had tons to eat, more than enough toys. The kids 
were just able to play. We have Shaggy Bear and two monkeys, the adult money and child monkey that interacted with the kids. The jumping tent is always a hit and we had two. The kids had lots to eat – cupcakes, popsicles, cotton candy. We made sure that every child ate and every child got a toy or two,” Robinson told Barbados TODAY.
The party took place between 1-5 pm.
“It was overwhelming. We wanted to have a party for 10 kids from each school so we wrote to two schools from each parish asking for 10 less fortunate children based on need. Of course we had extra. We also wrote schools asking if the party could be hosted at the school and Harrison College was the first to respond so we went with Harrisson College,” she said.
While Robinson funded 95 per cent of the cost for the Christmas party, she also received some support from businesses, though not a significant number of them.
“One lady knew someone who has a restaurant called Ryans and gave me the number for the owner and when I called she instantly she said she would give support. She donated 150 mini pizzas. That was awesome. Zephirin also gave the bread at the wholesale price,” she said.
