St Peter family at a loss over relative’s murder

Wavney Bishop of Boscobel, St Peter got a call last night that no mother would ever wish to receive. The news that her only child Gregory Bishop was the island’s latest murder victim.

Bishop told Barbados TODAY she received the call just after 11 p.m. informing her that her 33-year-old son was gone. With tears flowing freely, she said she last saw him yesterday evening when he told her he was “going up the road to come back”. She said she was still trying to come to grips with his passing.

“He used to help me out a lot around here. He helped build this house. I can’t believe he gone,” Bishop said.

The deceased Bishop was a former worker at the St Thomas District hospital.

At the time of his death, he was however preparing to return to the Fisheries Division.

“He used to work at the market and they call he back. He was working at the District hospital in St Thomas for a few weeks so he was going back to work shortly at the market, but he meet his death,” his mother explained.

She admitted to being at a loss over her son’s fatal shooting, which occurred at Douglin Road, Weston about 11:05 last night. He died at the scene.

“What you could do? Nothing I can do, but I will miss him,” she said.

Girlfriend Catherine Bowen, fighting back tears and at a loss for words, simply said she was going to miss Gregory. He leaves to mourn his two children Toria,13, and G’Coby, five.

With tears flowing down her face, Toria said: “I’m going to miss him.”

Police are continuing their investigations into the death, which they are treating as “unnatural”.
