Despite Minister of Health John Boyce’s serving notice that the controversial infectious disease isolation centre will open as planned at the Enmore facility, teachers and parents of the nearby Ursuline Convent School still believe there is a chance that could change.

This evening, representatives handed in a petition to the Ministry of Health urging the relocation of the centre which would also be used to treat Ebola cases.

Principal Susan Chennery told Barbados TODAY this afternoon that they were able to collect 3,140 signatures.

The school caters to 600 children.

Boyce has given the assurance that the Ministry is following international standards required for operating such facilities and there is no health risk to those in the immediate or surrounding community.

The centre is scheduled to open on November 1.
