First it was environmental problems that disrupted classes at the Grazettes Primary School. Now, it is Ellerton Primary School students who will have to stay away from classes for a few days.

School was dismissed early today, partly because of pigeons nesting in the school’s roof.

“The school was closed early today to allow workmen to complete the cleanup of one part of the school’s facilities, where minor construction has been ongoing,” an official statement issued by the Ministry of Education this evening said.

The St George institution will be closed for the remainder of the week.

Chief Education Officer Laurie King said the work is expected to be completed by the end of this week, in time for children to be back in class by next Monday.

When Barbados TODAY visited the school this afternoon, workmen were busy removing pieces of the ceiling from classrooms.

President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Pedro Shepherd visited the school where he met with management.
