The 2014 Community Independence Celebrations have officially been launched.
Hundreds of residents converged at Oistins Car Park yesterday evening for the event that was filled with colour, tradition and excitement and drew both locals and visitors.
The party began earlier in the day with a colourful parade featuring the Parish Ambassadors and committees accompanied by a tuk band and conch shell blowers who paraded from the top of Oistins Hill into the car park.
There were performances by former calypso monarch Adrian Clarke, who did a “spouge session”, Neil Crichlow, as well as Lorenzo and Pompey, performing some vintage calypsos that got the large crowd moving.
Talent was in abundance from many other young Barbadians in drama and dance.
Veteran musician Sach Moore was presented with the Jackie Opel Spouge Award.
