A year and a half after failing to win the St Peter seat in the 2013 general elections, the ruling Democratic Labour Party is still to nominate a candidate to succeed Haynesley Benn.

“We have not nominated anyone yet for that. Those things are done in-house. When we get to that bridge, we will make the appropriate announcement,” General Secretary of the party, George Pilgrim told Babados TODAY this afternoon.

The Opposition Barbados Labour Party has already chosen a caretaker for the constituency, pending nomination.

Former president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Colin Jordan is being favoured as the BLP’s candidate to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of veteran politician and former prime minister, Owen Arthur.

Arthur, who is now sitting in Parliament as an independent, represented the party in that constituency for more than 14 years.

The next general elections are constitutionally due in 2018.
