Multi-faith service, parade of flags planned for Commonwealth Day

The Royal Commonwealth Society Barbados Branch will host its annual Multi-Faith Observance for Commonwealth Day 2019 at the Cathedral of St. Michael and All Angels, St Michael’s Row, Bridgetown.

The service commences at 9:15 a.m. on Commonwealth Day, Monday, March 11.

Dame Sandra Mason, Governor General of Barbados and Patron of The Royal Commonwealth Society, Barbados Branch is among the dignitaries who will be in attendance.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Day Message will be read by the Governor-General.

Several school children and choirs will also be in attendance.

At 11 a.m., Dame Sandra will take a salute outside the Cathedral on as the flags of the Commonwealth and its 53 member countries are carried in parade by 240 members of uniformed youth groups, with the Mounted Troop of the Royal Barbados Police Force and the band of the Barbados Cadet Corps.

The parade will go through Bridgetown to Jubilee Gardens, up Broad Street and finishing in the Parliament Buildings Yard where the flags will be flown for the remainder of Commonwealth Day.

There will also be a changing of the guard performed by the Barbados Legion wearing the Zouave uniform at the gates of the yard of the Parliament Buildings.
