After 12 years as General Manager at the Divi Southwinds Beach Resort Alvin Jemmott will be leaving the hotel next Monday December 31.
Asked if there was a reason for his seemingly sudden departure at this time, Jemmott simply told Barbados TODAY “Yes, I have been here for a long time,” adding “It is my decision”.
He described his tenure with the Christ Church property as “exhilarating, challenging, rewarding and exciting”.
The former St Leonard’s School student became the general manager of the hotel in November 2006, with a focus to enhance the guest experience and further develop the resort’s amenities and activities.
He said he was satisfied with his efforts over the years to help “turn things around” for the better at the hotel.
The 36-year hospitality industry veteran has no immediate plans for another full time job. However, he told Barbados TODAY given his love for the industry “that is where you will find me”.
Prior to working at Divi Southwinds, Jemmott worked as Group Director of Sales for the Palm Beach Group. He also worked as General Manager at the Amaryllis Beach Resort and Director of Sales for the Sam Lord’s Castle Resort.
He has also held various tourism-related post including President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) and most recently Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), which came to an end earlier this year after a new Government came to office.
It was not immediately clear who will replace him or how soon. However, Barbados TODAY understands that another senior employee who was positioned to take up the post could also be leaving the hotel.
