Technical difficulties make Courts shoppers blue

It might have been better for Cyber Monday shoppers if they joined real lines at the popular retail giant Courts Barbados.

From early this morning customers experienced delays and error messages as they sought to save big in the 40 per cent off sale.

Upset shoppers took to the company’s Facebook page to complain, some of them indicating they would take their business elsewhere.

It was not immediately clear how the technical difficulties impacted the company’s sales for the day.

Barbados TODAY was yet to receive a response from the company up to publication time.

The company did apologize via its Facebook account, saying “high demand” was responsible for long load times on its website.

“We’re sorry shopcourts.com is taking a while to load because of the high demand from our Cyber Monday sale. Our engineers are working on increasing the speed. Please continue to try placing your orders as they will eventually go through. The deals are great so trust us when we say it’s worth the wait. Sorry again,” the company said at about 3 p.m.

This drew a suggestion from Dawn Carter, who recommended the company extend the sale “in good faith as people have been trying to get on since this morning”.

As the clock counted down to the midnight end of the sale, complaints went up from shoppers who were eager to make their purchases, but could not.

A disappointed Carla Bellot said in a post this afternoon, “I’ve been trying since this morning to make purchase, however, your site keeps crashing. So much for grabbing the Cyber Monday deals”.

Another customer complained about the customer service saying that the site was down “and so is customer service. They were absolutely no help!”

One user with the name Deborah Nixon said she wanted a washing machine, but complained that the website was “not working”.

“I’ll take my money somewhere else,” she said.

According to Adobe Analytics, globally, shoppers were expected to spend some US$7.8 billion on Cyber Monday, an 18 per cent increase over last year.

This, after Black Friday sales reportedly pulled a record US$6.22 billion in online sales, or 23.6 per cent over 2017.

Commercial Director at Unicomer Barbados Ltd, Peter Ellis, reported last Friday that the store was having “an excellent Black Friday sale”.
