A 27-year-old is one of several people injured after the ZR van he took to get to work slammed into a utility pole in Connell Town, St Lucy Monday afternoon.

Eyewitnesses in the close knit community say, waiter, D’Wayne Springer may have been the most severely injured of those in the vehicle.
When a Barbados TODAY team arrived at the scene, residents said other passengers had already gone to seek medical attention.

Springer, who was travelling in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, was the last to leave the scene by ambulance.
Surrounded by family and friends, Springer could be heard crying out in pain as paramedics moved him.
According to reports, Springer had left home minutes before the accident to make his way to work.
His father, Richard Springer, who was at the scene, told Barbados TODAY his son lives with him, just houses away from where the accident happened.
“You just don’t know what is going to happen when you leave home. He is my only son too. Before he left home he told me he gone, and I tell he alright,” he said.
“I was in my bed lying down when I get the call that the accident happened. He tell we that half of his body was outside the van and he crawl out. The thing is, he accustomed getting in vans because up here we hardly get transportation, so whatever come first you got to take.”
One young female resident said she was the first to be at Springer’s side. She said they were talking at a nearby shop minutes before he got on the van.
“He went along and I was still sitting there. Then I just heard a loud bang. When I look, D’Wayne was on the ground. I was in shock and I start to scream, because I thought he was dead, honestly. He was trying to move, and I tell he don’t move.
“Then I realized that his hand was break. I hold it up until my cousin come to help me, because my hand started to hurt. He was in the front seat, so when it hit, a part of his body was through the window. He just crawl out because he was in so much pain,” the young resident said.
Police are continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
