Even before news broke that 24-year-old Jamal Elon Lewis of Rock Gap, Eagle Hall, St Michael had died in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday, his sister said she could sense that something was wrong that day.

So strong was that feeling, Kelly-Ann Lewis told Barbados TODAY this afternoon, that she was prompted to call her brother around the time the accident occurred.
“The first thing I had a feeling that something was wrong and I was at work; then my cousin asked if I had heard my brother for the morning so I called him and I didn’t get through. At that point the feeling started to get worse and then I really knew within myself that something was wrong. It is a feeling that is really hard to describe but I just knew that something was not right,” she said.
The accident occurred around 1:10 p.m. Three nurses were among several onlookers, who assisted Lewis at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) where he later died.
His motorcycle crashed along Hastings Main Road, making his the 27th road death for the year. Lewis had a four-year-old daughter and 10-month-old son. He was also survived by his twin brother and his parents.
The family was not taking the death of their loved one well, sister Kelly-Ann said, adding that the tragedy was especially tough on Jamal’s twin brother.
“I really don’t know how to describe what the family is going through because we are a very close-knit family. I don’t say that lightly because everybody in the family is really close, we are more like brothers and sisters than cousins. Everybody is really taking it hard especially his twin. When you share the womb with somebody only to lose them just like that it’s going to be doubly painful,” she said.
The visibly distraught sister described her brother as a fun-loving and easy-going individual with a deep love for family.
“My brother was the most easy-going person that you could meet. He was silly at times but most of the time he was just cool unless somebody troubled him. He really loved his family and was the type of person that would do anything for them. His whole life was his family and it’s really difficult to let go,” Kelly-Ann revealed.
She further disclosed that apart from healing from the pain of the tragedy, the family is concentrating on the children that her brother left behind.
“It goes without saying that Jamal’s children are going to be taken care of. As I said before we are a close knit family and it is going to be a case of all for one and one for all. So, everybody is going to pitch in and make sure that the children don’t want for anything,” noted the grieving sister.
