Sales of Honda vehicles in Barbados are expected to take off over the coming months. Operators of Platinum Motors Inc., suppliers of the brand on the island, said yesterday the company had come up with a new “price strategy” that is expected to attract more customers.
In addition, chairman of Platinum Motors Inc., Peter Harris, said the company would be taking its “corporate social responsibility very seriously” and would be involved in “a number of activities to benefit the community”.
Harris was speaking to race car drivers and motorsport enthusiasts yesterday evening at the company’s Bay Street showroom as he announced the sponsorship of local driver Jamal Brathwaite and Natasha “Chiney Dolly” Chang, who is here from Jamaica to also represent Honda.

They will be taking part in the 30-race Sea Board Marine Digicel Williams Industries International Motor Racing Championship. It comes off this Saturday and Sunday at the Bushy Park in St Philip.

Platinum Motors inc. took over the Honda operations about a month ago. Harris said the company was in the process of “changing the Honda experience in Barbados” through its provision of high quality vehicles at reasonable prices. This, he said, was in keeping with the mission of Honda worldwide.
“The new price point of Honda, I am sure, is a change that customers would welcome given the current market conditions. A Honda purchase going forward would be based not only on Honda’s reputation for safety and reliability, but because the price is right,” said Harris.
“We have done our homework and value for money Honda trumps all the competitors on the island. Honda’s new customer-friendly pricing strategy also extends to our services and our power equipment. At the moment the prices are even better because we have sales on equipment to make room for our new Honda merchandise,” he said, adding that the orders of Honda vehicles have been “very encouraging” since the official opening under the new ownership.
Noting that Platinum Motors Inc. was also operating a full service garage, Harris said the company would “shortly” have a full range of Honda vehicles in the showroom, including the Fit, the City, the CRV, the Accord and the Civic.
Meanwhile, Brathwaite and Chang, the two Honda ambassadors, described their partnership with the brand as a win-win for both parties.
