Barbados is likely to start feeling the effects of Hurricane Issac early Wednesday morning, local forecasters have cautioned.
In its weather information statement issued at 5 p.m., the Barbados Meteorological Services said that an outer band associated with Issac would bring some scattered showers, isolated thunderstorms and occasional gusty winds early Wednesday morning.
The Met office says on its current track, the center of the system is forecast to pass between 100-150 miles north of Barbados early on Thursday.
It added that as Issac progressed westward into the Caribbean Sea, more organized convection trailing the system was expected to affect Barbados, bringing moderate to heavy showers and occasional gusty winds well into Friday.
Sea conditions are also forecast to deteriorate from Wednesday and continue into Thursday with swells expected to peak near 3.5 metres in open water.
At 5 p.m., Hurricane Issac was located near 14.4 degrees north, 45.0 degrees west or about 970 miles east of Barbados.
Maximum sustained winds remain at 75 miles per hour. Hurricane Force winds extend outward 10 miles and storm force winds 45 miles from the center.
Issac continues to move westward at 14 miles per hour.
