A voluntary recall, recently issued by Armstrong Agencies Limited on Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bitz products, is being supported by Barbados’ Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA).

Acting Deputy Director of  the DCCA, Margaret Campbell Leslie, said the department, which is charged with the protection of consumers, is advising all individuals not to eat any of the above-mentioned products and to return them to the entity from which they were purchased for refunds.

Mondelēz Global LLC and the Mondelēz Canada have issued a voluntary recall on Ritz Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bitz products from the marketplace. According to Mondelez, “these products contain whey powder as an ingredient, which the whey powder supplier has recalled due to the potential presence of Salmonella”.

Salmonella is defined as a microorganism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. While most infections usually last from four to seven days and most people recover without treatment, some persons may develop severe diarrhea that requires hospitalization.

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is also advising consumers that they should immediately seek medical attention should any of these symptoms occur. (BGIS)
