
Government says the sargassum seaweed now blanketing the island's eastern and southern beaches is being treated as a national emergency and the Barbados Defence Force will be deployed to tackle the problem.
Word of this today Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley following a meeting of several Government Ministers, Ministry officials and key stakeholders to put systems in place to counter the invasive seaweed.
She revealed that a programme would soon be rolled out to move from a situation of crisis intervention to one of economic activity. (BGIS)
