The parents of missing man Christopher Broome say they are at their wits end.

A police bulletin issued yesterday said the 40-year-old man had been missing since September 21 and was last seen by his parents at the Grantley Adams International Airport around 7 a.m., driving a light blue, Suzuki Dzire motor car, registration number X664.

Today, when Barbados TODAY visited Broome’s home at Frere Pilgrim, Christ Church, his parents Elsa and Fitzherbert Broome said while they were not aware of their son’s whereabouts, they did not believe that anything was wrong with him.

Christopher Broome’s mother Elsa says the last time she and her husband had seen him was when he dropped them off at the airport two Thursdays ago.

“He is just disgusting,” his frustrated mother said, explaining to Barbados TODAY that the last time she and her husband had seen Christopher was when he had dropped them off at the airport two Thursdays ago.

However, she said her son, who was scheduled to pick them back up in her vehicle on September 25 has been a no show since then.

“We came back to the island last Monday night. We went out [on September 21] to Atlanta to my nephew’s passing out parade. . . . [and] Christopher was to pick us up at the airport.

“[However] we came in and we were at the airport for nearly an hour and we didn’t see Christopher.

“We had to call our neighbour to come pick us up [and] I haven’t put eyes on Christopher since he dropped us off at the airport,” the agitated mother said.

She also revealed that she had a Rav4 sports utility vehicle that her son used to drive. However, she said about two days before she left the island, she sold it to one of her son’s friends.

“He [Christopher] told him how much it was for and everything, like it was his, but anyhow, the guy got the jeep, and I gave my son $1,000.

“At the airport the morning he [Christopher] told me, ‘I tell you I want $3,000 and you only give me one?’ I didn’t answer Christopher. I didn’t take him on. And he said when I come back I’m going to find him dead or something like that. I can’t remember exactly what he said,” the mother added.

With no sign of Christopher since her return, she said other people had reported to her that they had been seeing him around, but no one seemed able to tie down her son, who she said behaved like “a madman when he’s ready”.

“I give him the Rav 4 and that man run that thing morning, noon and night. He don’t go to work. Now the Rav4 sold, it like it now dawn on him, ‘what am I going to drive?’,  because we don’t let him drive the Suzuki Dzire,” she further revealed, while suggesting that her 40-year-old son was not very responsible.

“Christopher is going to go out for a day or two. Whenever he leaves here he don’t call back or say anything. He’s just disgusting. A big 40-year-old man and would not go to work,” the mother further lamented.

“He want the money, but don’t want to work,” she insisted, adding that “nothing is wrong with Christopher.

“Everyone is seeing him on the road and I don’t understand why the police don’t pull over Christopher and just follow him home,” she said.

The retired senior executive secretary in the Prime Minister’s office and her husband Fitzherbert, a retired police officer, complained that they were now tied down at home because of their son’s latest “antics”.

“The problem is he has my car. We can’t get out. We tied down here in the house and have to be begging people to drop us here and there. We aren’t accustomed to this.

“All these things hurting me and his father. I worked everyday of my life in Government. I just retired, and I shouldn’t be going through this. My husband was a police. We should be home relaxing. But we got to be dealing with this,” she vented.

She also revealed that this was not the first time, Christopher had done some thing like this.

“Earlier this year he did the same thing and he was gone for eight days. It was the Rav4. I was concerned because I wasn’t hearing anything. I don’t know why Christopher don’t go to work.

“Everyday he goes through the door, he comes to me, ‘mommy you got to give me $20 to put gas in the car’. I tell him, ‘you don’t approach people so’. That does irk me,” she added.

The Frere Pilgrim resident told Barbados TODAY she would just like her son to return her vehicle.

“Every month I pay Simpson [Motors] for that. A new car I just got last year. That boy don’t lack for nothing. I don’t know why he behaves so . . . .  He’s the only one in my family so. He’s my only child and I just don’t understand this,” she added.

Police say Broome is 5 ft 11’ in height, slim built, light brown in complexion, has fine features, a baldhead and is cleanly shaven. He has dark brown eyes, a straight nose, and walks with an erect appearance. He is pleasant mannered, has a light voice, a tattoo on one of his arms, and frequents adult clubs of entertainment.

They are asking anyone with information on Christopher’s whereabouts to contact District ‘B’ Police Station, Police Emergency at 211, Crime Stoppers at 1-800 –TIPS (8477), or the nearest police station.
